Dallas - The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly

Last month Bry said he wanted to take one last vacation, just overnight, before school started back.  We decided to go to Dallas.  He had researched the Zoo and found it was ranked #3 in the nation. It has been rather hot so we were planning to leave early in the morning in order to arrive when they opened.  The night before we left, we had a discussion on when that actually occured.  I said 9:00, Bry said 10:00.  There had been some fires overnight along our route.  It had even knocked out power for about an hour around Midnight.  We should have taken this as a sign but we did not.

So, we left at 6:00 a.m. heading to Dallas.  I put the coordinates in the GPS and we were off.  Now, let me just tell you that it is quite an experience when we are going on a trip.  The driving is always horrible, 95% of the time we end up in an arguement and this trip was no different.  Dallas has always been a difficult place for me to navigate but we made it through alive.  We pull up to the zoo around 9:30 and B says 'This isn't the Fort Worth Zoo.  I said the Fort Worth Zoo.'  Looking back now, we see why there was a disconnect on the opening times of the Zoo - we were talking about two different Zoo's.  So, I reprogram the GPS and we head out to the Fort Worth Zoo.  From the rear of the car we hear 'I have to go potty. Why are we leaving the Zoo.  But I want to go to the Zoo.  Mom, you picked the wrong zoo?  Awe, we are lost.'

Finally - at 10:15 a.m. we made it to the Fort Worth Zoo.  The reviews were correct.  It was an amazing Zoo.  It was so comfortable, the animals seemed so close.

We always have to find the Merry-go-round.  This was the slowest one in the history of the world.  I felt a strong urge to push the thing.  They also let the kids ride F-O-R-E-V-E-R.  Long enough that Bugs said 'Awe, it is neber going to stop.'

They actually brought this brown bear into this log and you could get in there and look at it.  Amazing.  It was hard to get a good picture of just how close we were to it.

After the zoo we went to our hotel - Gaylord Texan.  They have built a large pool area with a Lazy River and slide.  Getting a glitter tattoo.

Sunday we got up and took our stuff to the car, then came back to the lobby to catch the shuttle bus you had to take to the pool.  All was going great until we were ready to leave and B noticed his keys were missing.  His keys that include all his keys to the school, gyms, etc.  We never left the property so we were amazed they hadn't been turned in.  I'm writing this post on Thursday and they still have not been found.  So, our overnight trip really was a disaster.  I'm sure the girls will always remember a great time however, it was not so fun for the adults.
